Orono HS Holiday Concert- 2011

Concert Reflection

The Orono High School Chorus and Concert Choir performed at Hauck Auditorium on the University of Maine campus on Wednesday, December 14. The Concert Choir first performed traditional Christmas carols out in the lobby of Hauck as people entered the building out of the snowless but cool evening.  Many stopped to listen before buying a raffle ticket for the ‘Beethoven’s Birthday Basket”.  (Thank you OSCAR for organizing the raffle as a way to raise funds for the Arts in Orono.)

We were sad to say goodbye to Miss Suranie, our student teacher who had been with us since September. Miss Suranie directed Dedication composed by New York composer, Andy Beck. We hope you will be able to come back and visit some time. We also hope that you will be able to find a great job working with enthusiastic singers such as what we have here in Orono!

Our thanks go out to Dr. Artesani for taking the time from her busy schedule to accompany our concert and the dress rehearsal earlier in the day. Both of her daughters are alumni of the Concert Choir and Dr. Artesani herself, was a member of the chorus when she was a student at Orono High School.

Our last piece in the concert, Bridge Over Troubled Water, by Paul Simon and arranged by Kirby Shaw was sung beautifully by both choirs and was accompanied by guest musicians, Peter Polk and Bret Vicary on trumpet, Fred Heath on the trombone and our own, Mr. Hodgdon on the bass. Thanks for making making the evening of music a memorable one.

Congratulations go to Liam’s Dad, Richard, for winning Beethoven’s Birthday basket.
